Method for controlling components (K1, K2, K3, K4, K5, K6) of a communications system comprising at least one network (P1, K2, K3, P2, P3, P4, P5) for transmitting digital communications signals with at least one switching device (K2, K3) and communications terminals (K1, K4, K5, K6) assigned to subscribers, with which a multipoint multiple connection call set-up is possible. The components in each case contain control units to control a connection set-up, one component (K2, K3, K5; K3, K2, K1) in each case being controlled with the aid of signalling information transmitted by a different component (K1, K2, K3; K5, K3, K2) via the network (P1, K2, K3, P2, P3, P4, P5) in the form of messages. Each message contains at least one protocol and message identifier, attributes of the call, subscriber and connection objects with object numbers for each of the individual objects and furthermore information on the relationships between different objects. The information elements of the objects are contained in a message independently of the relationship with the other objects. In addition, each message separately contains information on the relationships between different objects. The control unit of the controlled component determines the relationships between the objects with the aid of this additional information.
