The vaporisation cooling system for an IC engine comprises cooling chambers inside the engine, completely filled with cooling fluid, with a steam divider in a supply line to a condenser and a condensate collector. A cooling fluid return is connected to a pump in the cooling chambers, and a supply to the environment branches from the condensate collector. A throttle (19) is built into this supply (18) to atmosphere at its free end, which holds a predetermined maximum system pressure for a short period of time, and additionally an overpressure and underpressure (20) valve is also built into this line.
