A method is proposed for reprocessing plastic-coated textile materials, in particular plastic-backed textile floor coverings, and for recovery of the textile fibres and plastics contained therein. The method includes the following operational steps: - cutting up the materials to be reprocessed into small shreds, roughly of the size 5 x 5 to 10 x 10 mm<2>; - mixing the shreds with water to form a pumpable mass; - comminuting the shreds in a mill to form a pulp; - dewatering and drying the pulp; - mechanical separation of the fibres from the resulting plastic granules. Furthermore, an installation for carrying out the method is described, which is characterised by the following components: - a shredding device (3) composed of longitudinal cutters and cross cutters (4) for the materials to be reprocessed; - at least one intermediate store (5) for the shreds with downstream metering and transport device (6); - at least one stirred vessel (1) for the production of the shred suspension; - at least one mill (16) for converting the shred suspension into a pulp; - at least one sieving apparatus (24) having a drier (30) arranged downstream; - at least one mechanical separation device (32) for separating the fibres from the resulting plastic granules, the components stirred vessel (7), mill (16) and sieving apparatus (24) being connected together by liquid pipes (13, 21, 9) which can be shut off.
