PURPOSE:To obtain a new gallic acid derivative having antiviral activity and useful as an active component of an antiviral agent by extracting finely cut Geum japonicum with hot water, extracting the extract with ethyl acetate and subjecting the product to chromatography. CONSTITUTION:Whole grass of Geum japonicum is cut to small pieces, dried and boiled twice in distilled water or deionized water for 2 hrs. The extracted liquid is filtered, concentrated under reduced pressure and freeze-dried to obtain an extract. The extract is suspended in distilled water and extracted with ethyl acetate six times, the extracted liquid is collected and ethyl acetate is removed under reduced pressure to obtain an extract. The extract is subjected to silica gel column chromatography, eluted with mixed chloroform-methanol solvent and purified by gel-filtration and reversed phase thin-layer chromatography to obtain the new substance 1-O-[galloyl-3-O(2,3,4-trihydroxyphenyl)[-2,3-di-O- galloyl-beta-D-glucopyranoside expressed by formula and useful for antiviral agent, etc. |
