Solder paste moistening property determination

The determination uses a block (1) of solder repelling metal, with a bore (4), into which soldering paste (2) is introduced. The block is connected to a scales to measure forces on the paste. The paste is smoothed with a spatula and melted. An activated metal tip (3) is then immersed into the paste to a defined depth. The time variation of the moistening force is measured whilst maintaining constant all test parameters, such as paste temp. and paste activation time. The metal block can be made of aluminium, copper or a copper alloy. The metal pin is activated with a mixture of phosphate and alcohol.
