Car anti-theft device

An anti-theft device for a car has a battery lock which can prevent current flow from the battery. It receives coded signals (from an infra-red transmitter, keyboard or card reader) to switch in the necessary circuits for starting. There is a codable signal generator (8) which sends a coded release signal over the bus (9) to the locking circuits (21, 22) for the starter and/or ignition and/or other circuits. The battery lock is contained in a compartment in the battery case, forming a mechanically sealed unit and it cannot be bridged without destroying the wall of the compartment.
