Vinyl chloride is bulk polymerized in the presence of (a) a reaction product of an organoaluminium compound or aluminium hydride, a tetrahydrocarbyl titanate ester, and an alcohol or water, and (b) a peroxy compound. Suitably an excess of the aluminium compound is employed in forming (a) or further aluminium compound is added. In examples, vinyl chloride is homopolymerized in the presence of Ti (O-n- C 3 H 7 ) 4 -(C 2 H 5 ) 3 Al-H 2 O, CH 3 OH, C 2 H 5 OH, C 3 H 7 OH, n-C 8 H 17 OH, or C 12 H 25 OH together with monochloroacetyl peroxide, in some cases with additional (C 2 H 5 ) 3 Al. |
