A sealed rechargeable alkaline cell (10) in which hydrogen is evolved in service, such as, for example, nickel-zinc, includes in the positive electrode (32) a catalyst for the oxidation of hydrogen, such as, for example, silver, in an amount sufficient to oxidize hydrogen evolved so that only a relatively moderate internal pressure is maintained in service and the cell may be used under even high rate charge/discharge conditions without venting of the cell occurring. |
