In a continuous stationery assembly comprising a number of superposed webs 10, Fig. 1, the webs are fastened together by punching tabs 11 in the marginal edges between pin-feed holes using a rotary cutter 12 in conjunction with a counter roller 13 having an annular groove 14 and brushing the free edges of the tabs formed against the periphery of a " hot melt " adhesive applicator roller 15 (Fig. 2) to bond the tabs together. In one embodiment, a number of webs is fed by a pin-feed roller 20, Fig. 5, to a rotary cutter 21, which co-operates with a counter roller 22 to form tabs which are deflected out of the plane of the webs passed over a registering roller 23, whereupon the webs are drawn over a guide 24 above which is disposed a roller 29 whose projections 30 deflect the tabs into contact with the adhesive applicator roller 25 whose speed is varied to cover a greater or lesser area of the leading edges of the tabs and thereby produce a stronger or weaker bond. In a further embodiment (Fig. 6) an additional registering or tensioning roller 46 may precede the applicator roller, the adhesive may be set in conjunction with air blast from a chamber 48 and the tabs pressed together by rollers 49, 50 provided with projections 51. |
