The component is folded from a single metal sheet, defining a flat base (3) with at least one perpendicular vertical flange (4) along its edge. The base and flanges include at least one aperture (6) of between 10 and 300 sq.cm in area, with a shallow rim around the periphery of each aperture directed towards the exterior of the component. The rim is between 2mm and 4mm deep. The component is formed by a series of successive operations, including separate stages of punching undersize apertures in the sheet, bending the rims roughly to 90 deg. relative to the sheet, then inverting the sheet and bending the rims through a further 90 deg. towards the exterior surface of the sheet. Three separate punch and matrix tools are used successively to form the component.
