PURPOSE:To obtain an optical recording medium and optical switching element in which changes of optical characterisics brought about by the irradiation of light can be increased by incorporating a photochromic compd. polymer and fatty acid into a recording layer or a coating layer. CONSTITUTION:The conversion rate of a photochromic material at the time of irradiation of light can be largely improved by dispersing and mixing fatty acid in a polymer containing a photochromic compd. The reason why the conversion rate of the photochromic compd. is improved by the addition of fatty acid is supposed that the fatty acid has carboxyl groups at the molecule end which are easily bonded with photochromic molecules and has long-chain alkyl groups so that the interaction among molecules of the photochromic compd. is relaxed by the structure of the fatty acid. Namely, it is supposed that the carboxyl groups as strong polar groups of the fatty acid is adsorbed in the photochromic compd. and the long-chain alkyl groups prevent molecules of the photochromic compd. from coming close to each other. |
