PURPOSE:To charge a small number of target assemblies, containing a large quantity of minor actinide nuclides of long half-life, dispersedly in a core and burn the large quantity of minor actinide nuclides efficiently without having large influence on a core characteristic. CONSTITUTION:A fast reactor core is a heterogeneous charge type core in which a small number of target fuel assemblies 12 with minor actinide nuclides added thereto are charged in the dispersed state. The target fuel assembly is of the same hexagonal cylinder shape in the outline and dimension of a wrapper tube as an ordinary core fuel assembly 10. The addition ratio of the minor actinide nuclides of target fuel rods 18 in the wrapper tube is 20-50%, and the diameter of the target fuel rod 18 is smaller than that of an ordinary core fuel rod 16. The number of the ordinary core fuel rods charged to the ordinary core fuel assembly 10 is 271, and the number of the target fuel rods charged to the target fuel assembly 12 is 331 or 397. Thirty to fifty target fuel assemblies 12 are dispersedly disposed in the core.
