The shoe heel (1a) consists of a base section (2a) made from a first material, esp. rubber, with a hardness of at least 90 Shore A, and a covering layer of a second material (3a) which is in close contact with the base. The covering layer is made from a polymerised material such as polyurethane, with a Shore A hardness of between 65 and 80. The base section has a main surface divided into major (5c) and minor (6c) zones, the latter being situated on the curved part of the heel. The area formed by the minor zone is thinner than that of the major zone and lies parallel or inclined relative to it. The covering layer is 1-2 mm thick over the major zone and 3-4 mm thick over the minor one, giving an overall heel thickness of 6-7 mm. The outer surface of the covering layer can be corrugated, grooved, smooth or carry a design.
