PURPOSE:To obtain a reproduction synchronizing signal required for applying time base correction to an FM modulated signal with high S/N by using a line memory at the time of high speed reproduction of FF/REW. CONSTITUTION:An FM modulated signal reproduced from a magnetic tape 3 is fed to a time base correction circuit 15 and fed to a synchronizing signal detection circuit 18, in which a synchronizing signal is separated. The synchronizing signal is fed to the time base correction circuit 15, in which time base fluctuation of the FM modulated signal is corrected. A high precision reel servo circuit 12 detects a CTL signal reproduced by a CTL head and a state of a reel driver 10 thereby discriminating whether a high speed FF/REF discrimination circuit 13 is in the FF reproduction state or the REW reproduction state at present. An FM equalization circuit 19 in the synchronizing signal detection circuit 18 sets the FM equalization characteristic in response to the FF reproduction state or the REW reproduction state respectively based on the discrimination result.
