Temporal analyser by non-linear response

Electronic instrument to observe over time repetitive electromagnetic signals of very high frequency (range equal to or greater than microwaves). It is based on the application of the signal to be observed Yx(t) 1 added (block 3) to a sinusoidal signal Ysin(t+τ) 2 of identical frequency, to a non-linear physical device (block 4) whose mean value response Ym(τ) 5 is measured for each value of τ (mutual phase displacement between Yx(t) and Ysin(t)). Varying τ between 0 and To, where To is the period of the signal Yx(t), the function Ym(τ) is obtained. From this function the signal sought Yx(t) is obtained by means of mathematical processing (block 6) based on the Fourrier transformation of Ym(τ). It is of application as an instrument to observe ultrafast physical and electronic phenomena over time. <IMAGE>
