PURPOSE:To provide a joining structure for prolonging the durability of a metal carrier for a catalytic converter for purifying exhaust gas discharged from an internal combustion engine, such as an automotive engine. CONSTITUTION:In a metal carrier which consists of a honeycomb body 4 consisting of a flat foil and a corrugated foil made of heat resistant alloy and an outer casing 5, and in which the inlet side vicinity of the honeycomb body 4 and several layers of the outer periphery are jointed, one transversal joining is executed at a place apart from the outlet side end surface with the inlet side joining part, and the same layer as the inner periphery of an outer periphery reinforcing layer 9 is subjected to non-joining over whole circumference. In this way, since the transversal joining part is provided inside the honeycomb body, the honeycomb body does not fly about even if an accidental fire occurs, and since thermal stress is relaxed by the non-joining layer, durability is obtained. |
