<p>PURPOSE:To remove hydrogen sulfide inexpensively and efficiently and prevent filler layers from being clogged by repeating alternately a hydrogen sulfide absorption process and a hydrogen sulfide oxidation process and washing the filler layers by feeding water. CONSTITUTION:Gas containing hydrogen sulfide is introduced to biological desulfurization columns 1a, 1b from introduction passage 3a, 3b for gas to be treated, while oxygen-containing gas is introduced from passages 4a, 4b. In this operation, the gases are switched to the columns 1a, 1b. In this way, the hydrogen sulfide which is absorbed in a hydrogen sulfide absorption process is oxidized into sulfuric acid in a hydrogen sulfide oxidation process. On the other hand, by feeding water to filler layers 2a, 2b, 32 from water supply passages 7a, 7b, 35, microorganisms are activated so that the hydrogen sulfide in the hydrogen sulfide absorption process can be absorbed and sulfuric acis produced in the hydrogen sulfide oxidation process is washed. Drainage produced in the washing is discharged from drains 5a, 5b, 33.</p> |
