Applying an undercoat to a photographic support material of crystallised polyethylene terephthalate subjected to a biaxial stretching comprises using a soln. in low boiling solvents of 1.5-3.5% by wt. of a mixture of 30-50% of an elastomer, 30-40% of a vinyl copolymer, 10-15% of an isocyanate and 10-20% of a plasticiser to form on the support, after evapn. of the solvent, a layer of material about 1 mu thick, which is then coated with gelatin dispersed in organic solvents, heated to 100-115 deg.C and irradiated with U.V. to cause hardening. The elastomer may be a copolymer of 50-70% butadiene with 50-30% acrylonitrile. The vinyl copolymer consists of 91% of vinyl chloride with 3% vinyl acetate and 6% vinyl alcohol. |
