A head for the application of composite bands has a compacting group which incorporates rollers intended to press on a composite band to make it conform to the corresponding piece comprising a pair of rollers 12.1 and 12.2 mounted in diametrical opposition on a gyratory support, each roller 12.1 or 12.2 being formed by a multiplicity of identical pieces 12.4 which are maintained in position by tubular pipes 12.5 through which a pressurised fluid flows. The head is also provided with a) motorised vacuum rollers 5, 7 for forming a storage loop in the feed path of the composite band; b) rotary cutting mechanism for edge trimming of the composite band and comprising blades 9, 9' each capable of rotating in both directions, and being both transversely displaceable and adjustable to vary the depth and orientation of the cut; and c) self centring mechanisms 8, 8' and centring roller 10 for guiding and centring the composite band as it is applied. <IMAGE> |
