Apparatus for sealing plastics film wrappings of cigarette packets 1 in a scaling zone of a wrapping machine comprises travelling sealing bands 6 for engaging the wrappings and moving with the packets through the sealing zone. The rear surface of each sealing band is acted upon by heat sealing members 9, positioned behind each band. A tensioned stationary covering band 12 is positioned behind the sealing band and over the sealing members to provide a support and sliding surface for the moving sealing band. The covering band may be tensioned by a rotary lockable tensioning block 16 and a fixed block 13, and may be guided to and from the sealing zone by entry and exit guides 17, 18. The sealing bands 6, sealing members 9 and covering bands 12 may be moved together or apart on supports 21 to change the width of the sealing zone. <IMAGE> |
