A conveying system (10) is provided for moving a pallet (12) along straight and curved paths. The conveying system (10) includes a track (14) on which the pallet (12) is mounted for movement by a motor driven roller (52) pivotally mounted on the pallet (12) which engages a stationary shaft (18) mounted on the track (14). Depending on the position of the drive roller (52) in relation on the shaft (18), the pallet (12) is driven forward, rearward, or remains stationary. The drive roller (52) is resiliently urged into contact with the shaft (18) and is pivotally mounted on the pallet (12) so as to be movable between a forward drive position, a rearward drive position, and a stationary position. A resilient bias (33) urges the drive roller to the forward drive position. A cam mechanism (38) is provided to move the drive roller (52) to the stationary position when desired.
