Catalytic preparation of beta-cyanoalkylsilane.

This invention provides a process for the catalytic addition of silicon hydrides to alpha , beta -unsaturated olefinic nitriles to form beta -cyanoalkylsilanes. The process is conducted at a temperature within a range of 50 DEG C. to 250 DEG C. Our process utilizes as a catalyst one of the following: 1) tertiary and quaternary amino ion exchange resins; 2) tetraalkylammonium halides supported on silica gel; 3) divinylbenzene/4-vinylpyridine copolymer based resins; 4) triorganophosphine oxide supported on an organic resin or 5) triorganophosphine compounds.
