Prodn. of radio:labelled compsns. for use in cell cultures

Prodn.of <13>C- and/or <15>N-labelled compsns. (I) comprises: (a) digesting <13>C- and/or <15>N-labelled phototropic cells with a mixt. of pectinase, cellulase and opt. alpha -amylase; (b) centrifuging the digested mixt. to obtain a pellet and a supernatant; (c) fractionating the supernatant on a column to obtain a sugar compsn. (Ia) and a peptone compsn. (Ib); and (d) preparing a hydrolysate compsn. (Ic) from the pellet by extracting lipids, hydrolysing the pellet with acid and neutralising the hydrolysate. Also claimed are the compsns. obtd. for (use in) a cell (culture) medium. Pref. the enzyme mixt. comprises 1-10 (esp. 4)g pectinase, 0.2-3 (esp. 1)g cellulase and 0-0.5 (esp. 0.01)g alpha -amylase in 20 ml sterile distilled water. The phototropic cells are plant cells, esp. tobacco, spinach or basil cells.
