Segmented rotor for e.g. axial-flow turbine machinery

The blades (7) of the rotor (1) are mounted on the ring (2) around the axis of rotation (3). The ring is composed of segments (4), joined by dovetails (10) and grooves (11) and held together by one or more bands (5). The front and rear faces of the segments are machined, to match with the segments of other rings in building up the rotor. Assembly is by sliding the dovetails into the grooves. The bands are inserted in grooves in the front and rear surfaces at such a radius as to hold the dovetails in place, and may be composed of a steel wire core coated with a composite material. The bands, dovetails and contacting faces of the segments are treated with a metallic oxide to prevent fusion caused by heat during running. Assembly processes are described.
