<p>The invention relates to an insect monitoring system or trap and related method and more particularly though not exclusively to a system for monitoring and trapping pests which feed off umbilliferous plants. In accordance with an aspects of the invention there is provided an insect monitoring system or trap which incorporates a plant volatile as a chemical attractant. In order to attract the insect to the trap it is preferred to use at least two chemical attractants at least one of which is a plant volatile. Preferably, the at least two, chemical attractants include a longer range semio-chemical attractant which is a substantially volatile compound and a shorter range semio-chemical attractant which is a substantially less-volatile compound.</p> |
