A rolling mill bearing assembly coolant guard, for sealing against ingress of coolant and entrained contaminants, comprises (a) a radial annular base flange with a planar rear face for securing against the non-rotatable flat mounting surface of the bearing assembly; (b) a circular sealing flange integrally joined to the inner edge of the base flange and extending angularly away from the base flange front face and across the gap, between the mounting surface and a roll end face, into sealing contact with the roll end face; and (c) a reinforcing device which accommodates flexible radial deformation of the coolant guard w.r.t. the roll neck axis, while resisting any axial distortion of the base flange away from the mounting surface, and which comprises a hoop embedded in the base flange, the hoop width extending parallel to the roll neck axis. |
