Vehicle tailgate wiper control

In a vehicle in which the tailgate has a window that can open and which is fitted with a wiper, the control signal for the wiper is determined by processing signals from the ignition switch 12, the washer switch 18, the wiper switch 20, the window position switch 16 and the tailgate position switch 14. Operation of the wiper is thus prevented or halted when either the tailgate or tailgate window are not closed. Different regimes for operating or parking the wiper depending on the length of time that the washer is active are disclosed (see figure 2).
