[Also in Division F2] Cyclic variations in the speed of rotation of a drum shear 17 for cutting moving roller stock are provided by driving the drums through an arrangement in which shafts 10, 16 are joined to shaft 14 by Hooke's type universal joints 13, 15, and shaft 10 is mounted in a support 8 to vary the angle of inclination between shafts 10 and 14. The shaft 10 carries a bevel gear 11 meshing an input bevel 5 on a driving shaft 7, the support 8 being rockable about the shaft 7. A compensating balancing mass 22 is driven by the shaft 7 through an identical arrangement. The shaft 7 is driven by a motor 1 through a variable belt-and-pulley gear 2, the motor also driving a feed roller 23 for the stock. By adjustment first of the variable gear 2, and then of the support 8, a definite cutting length may be provided for a given stock feed speed. |
