<p>PURPOSE:To suppress the error of the neutral position of a steering angle sensor and narrow the control dead zone by averaging the output values of the steering angle sensor, and correcting the average value as the neutral output value of the steering angle sensor on condition that a vehicle is straightly advanced. CONSTITUTION:This electric power steering is provided with a torque sensor 5 detecting the steering force of a steering shaft 11, a steering angle sensor 6 detecting the steering angle of the steering shaft 11, and a motor 1 connected to a steering rack 10 via a reduction gear 3. A controller 8 judges that a vehicle is straightly advanced in response to the detected steering force and steering angle. The controller 8 averages the output values from the steering angle sensor 5 for a fixed period and calculates this average value as the neutral output value of the steering sensor 5 on condition that the vehicle is straightly advanced. The control dead zone is corrected to be narrowed to the utmost possible centering on the neutral output value thus obtained by learning. The returning performance of a steering wheel is improved, and good steering feeling is obtained.</p> |
