Method and appts. for operating a strip casting plant

The method concerns operation of a strip casting plant, in particular, at the start of the casting process. In such a plant the strip mould is followed by at least one reduction roll pair (4) and - immediately after it - an adjustable strip guide grating (5). At the start of the casting process the roll pair is set to a gap producing a strip with a thickness less than the desired final value. After the adjustment region of the roll pair (4) and the guide grating (5) is fully occupied by the less thick strip, the gap is set (pref. in successive stages) to its final value.
