<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a new rosin-modified phenol resin which is excellent in gloss and gives a printing ink with a satisfactory printability even when dissolved in a nonarom. solvent. CONSTITUTION:A new rosin-modified phenol resin is obtd. by thermally reacting rosin, a resole phenol resin obtd. from a 10-20C alkyl phenol, and a polyhydric alcohol in the presence of an acid catalyst and has a wt. average mol.wt. of 30,000-250,000 and such a solubility that its soln. in a concn. of up to 30wt.% in a 15C aliph. hydrocarbon solvent is not turbid at 25 deg.C.</p> |
