A prefabricated manhole comprises a metal enclosure with walls 16, 14, 12, .there being an access point 28 in .the top wall 16 having a cover 32 .and openings 52, 53, 54 in the wall 12 each surrounded by a stub casing such as 55, 56 for joining to a conduit casing 57 and having a sealing member 58, 59, 60 to engage a pipe or pipes. 47, 48. There are venting conduits 40, 41, 46 and an integral sump 25 where shown,. communicating beneath the conduit 40 through an opening 20 in the wall 14 forming a flange 80. The tubes 43, 44 pass out through the sealing members 58, 59. A main steam valve 49, a drip leg 50 and a bucket .trap 51 in the manhole are connected to one of the pipes 47 or 48.
