PURPOSE:To obtain a fluorinated hydrocarbon useful as a foaming agent, refrigerant, cleaning agent, etc., with prolonged catalytic life in a high yield and selectivity by reducing a chlorofluorinated hydrocarbon with hydrogen in the presence of a specific catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The compound such as a compound of the formula II ((p) is x+y+2 when x+y+z=2n and is x+y when x+y+z=2n+2) is produced by reducing (A) a chlorofluorinated hydrocarbon such as a compound of the formula I ((n) is 1-6; (x) is O to 2n; (y) and (z) are 1 to 2n+1; x+y+z is 2n or 2n+2) with hydrogen in the presence of (B) a catalyst containing palladium and bismuth as essential components. |
