To produce patterned needled non-woven materials, a single or multi-layer needled material is formed into a velour web using crown and/or fork needles. At least one layer of textile fibres is overlaid to give at least one pattern, esp. using staple fibres, using fibres which are different from the carrier web in terms of colour and/or shape and/or material and/or thickness and/or orientation, wholly or partially over the surface. The combined material is further neddle bonded, so that the fibres on one side are passed through to be visible on the other side, to form piles generally on the under side of the web. - Pref. the preneedled non woven is of randomly laid fibres, or of oriented fibres aling the web length or laterally. The patterning fibre layer is laid wholly over the carrier web, or as one or more strips, or a number of shaped fibre sections, and the patterning fibres are oriented across the fibres in the carrier we. Staple fibres can be delievred to the carrier weby by a continuous or intermittent air stream, through a mouthpiece extending wholly or partially across the carrier web width, and a number of mouthpieces can be used to deliver fibre-charged air streams. |
