PURPOSE:To discriminate a specific pattern with high accuracy by discriminating specific information based on the correlation between picture information of a visible component and that of an invisible component detected by two linear areas on a picture. CONSTITUTION:A CCD references picture elements numbered 1-10 by using two-line information in the direction of main scanning. An R signal use picture data line delay section 3201 is constituted of an FIFO memory to write/read of data in the unit of picture elements. An R signal is delayed by one line at the delay section 3201 and the signal read from the delay section and the signal in a 0th line to be received are picture elements of the same position in the main scanning direction. Let both signals be picture element data whose numbers are 1, 2, then a mean value R1 is outputted via a computing element 3207, and outputs of the 0th line and from the delay section 3201 are received by latch groups 3202-3206 and mean values R3-R9 are outputted through computing elements 3208-3211 and inputted to a discrimination section 3215, in which a specific mark is detected and discriminated.
