PURPOSE:To provide a light wave transmission line applicable to various devices which has a columnar form in which any one of the diagonal, long axis and long side of at least one section crossing the longitudinal direction of a negative dielectric medium is smaller than a light wavelength, and utilizes that the optical electromagnetic field can locally exist in a sufficiently small range, compared with the light wavelength by covering the negative dielectric medium near the section with a positive dielectric medium. CONSTITUTION:A columnar negative dielectric medium 1 is enclosed by 7 a positive dielectric medium 2, and one end is connected to an optical waveguide 3 such as optical fiber through a coupling matching part 4. This constitution is based on the interaction in the boundary part between the negative dielectric medium 1 having a negative real number part of dielectric ratio and the positive dielectric medium 3 having a positive dielectric ratio, and it allows the transmission only in the axial direction along the boundary face of the negative dielectric having a sufficiently small aperture, compared with wavelength, but no transmission in any radial direction, and has a form having a phase constant only in the axial direction, or the form in which a positive dielectric plate is connected to a negative dielectric plate. |
