In AC mode, at least one motor-side power convertor is assigned to each input power convertor. In DC mode, according to a first solution, in each case two convertors of a convertor assembly are connected to one another via inductors, in which case in the event of a fault the faulty convertor can be disconnected and the operative convertor can be connected in parallel with another convertor. According to a second solution, the first convertors of all the convertor assemblies are assigned in each case to the second convertors of all the convertor assemblies, in which case in the event of a fault the faulty convertor can be disconnected.
