The invention relates to a method for the dry and also wet side grinding of workpieces, in particular metallic workpieces, wherein the grinding surfaces of the circulating abrasive wheels are set in such a manner as to be inclined in the direction of delivery of the workpieces continuously passing through. In order to prevent the occurrence of grinding grooves and grinding scratches owing to agglomerates of abrasive grains or individual abrasive grains coming out of the edges of the abrasive surfaces, the abrasive wheels are provided in the outer-edge region with a zone made of an elastic material. The elastic material may additionally be provided with a structure of abrasive grains in order to eliminate any grinding grooves which have arisen nevertheless, by fine grinding. The elastic material is preferably made of rubber or polyurethane, it being possible for the polyurethane to be continuously moulded onto a commercially available grinding wheel by foaming.
