A method for screening compounds or factors for their effect on tyrosine hydroxylase content of intact cells is described. The method utilizes a cell-based ELISA for quantitating changes in tyrosine hydroxylase content. The ELISA employs antibodies specific for tyrosine hydroxylase. The figure depicts the linear correlation between binding of anti-tyrosine hydroxylase and increased cell number, and shows that the assay will quantitatively measure differences in tyrosine hydroxylase content.
