Method of connecting the ends of toothed belts

A method of connecting the ends of toothed belts, which are provided with tension-strand inserts and in which the toothed-belt ends to be connected are placed one on top of the other and are split up by a common cut into sections interlocking in an accurately fitting manner, is to be provided in such a way that it is possible, despite the severing of the tension-strand inserts, to form the joint in such a way that its force transmission comes as close as possible to that of the rest of the belt. To this end, provision is made for a common straight cut to be made for preparing the connection of the toothed-belt ends. The straight cut is inclined at an angle to the longitudinal extent of the toothed belt and is directed through the ends of the toothed belt placed one on top of the other, the inclination being selected in such a way that the cutting point of the individual tension-strand inserts is offset by at least the width of a parting seam from the respectively adjacent cutting point in the longitudinal direction of the toothed belt while maintaining the width of the parting seam, so that, with the filling of the elastomeric material required, in each case only a single severed tension-strand insert is located in each cross-sectional plane of the cutting area running perpendicularly to the longitudinal direction of the toothed belt.
