A sheet counting apparatus comprises a rotary element 10 inclined to or at right angles to a stack and having a slotted peripheral portion 12 which projects between edges of adjacent sheets in the stack and suction means arranged to displace the edge of a sheet through the slot as the element 10 rotates. The element 10 is dish-shaped with a frusto-conical flange portion 12. The portion 12 has a number of slots 26, the leading side of each slot having three suction ports 28. The sheet corners are sucked up through the slots 26, Fig. 6, each displacement being counted by a photo-electric cell unit 40. A control circuit is provided for clamping, counting and unclamping the stack. |
