In a process for disposing of asbestos from units, in particular fire shutters, doors or the like, which are fitted in or on floor, ceiling or wall sections or through-passages, the following process steps are provided: - the positioning of a disposal chamber (1) which is provided with a sealing element (2) which acts on the wall or floor sections enclosing the unit, provision being made for retaining means (4) in the case of vertical walls (3) or of the chambers mounted beneath or on a ceiling section; - the build-up of a subatmospheric pressure at least in the area (5) formed by the disposal chamber (1), the subatmospheric pressure being maintained via a subatmospheric-pressure-generating device (6) such that a directed air flow (L) entering into the disposal chambers (1) is produced, and - dismantling and packaging, by the operating staff, of materials (7), which are to be disposed of, within the area through which flow takes place and/or in which subatmospheric pressure prevails. <IMAGE>
