An apparatus and method of attracting and trapping insects which includes an elongate strip of trapping material (24) having a sticky substance thereon. In one embodiment, the trapping material is provided as two adjacent plies (24A, 24B) which are unwound from a feed roll (22) across feed rollers (34) to a take-up roller (44). A trapping area (35) is provided between the feed rollers. The supply and feed rollers and take-up rollers may be contained in a cartridge (14) which is disposable. The cartridge (14) can be inserted in a housing (15) having auxiliary components such as electrical components (16) and lighting (70). In alternate embodiments, the trapping material may be a filament-like material (100) or may be tubular material (375) which is provided in flatened form and expanded to tubular shape in the trapping area (335) and thereafter rewound on the take-up roll (344).
