The invention relates to a method for purifying waste water containing nitrogen compounds with the aid of activated sludge in granular form, which contains nitrifying and denitrifying microorganisms in one reactor, the reactor carrying a sludge separation system in which sludge is continuously separated and largely recycled to the reactor. The waste water in the reactor is purified (treated) alternately under anoxic and under aerobic conditions, using the sludge in granular form, which is present in a concentration of 15-60 kg/m3, the oxygen required for the aerobic conditions being injected at an appropriate location to ensure that the oxygen is wholly or partially responsible for mixing within the reactor. <IMAGE> |
