An extendable pouring spout closure for liquid containers of the kind that c an be fitted to pre-formed circular openings, which have upstanding beaded rims, on such containers, and a cap assembly and locking means for use with that spout. The spout is installed in an inwardly folded, or re-entrant position for storage, and is pulled out to an extended, pouring position. A threaded cap closes the spout when not in use. A pair of bails a re moulded integrally with the cap during manufacture, as is an outer plastic locking ring. The bails are attached to the body of the cap by plastic hinges at their ends, and by an inner set of intermittent frangible membranes along their arc. The plastic locking ring i s attached to the bails by an outer set of intermittent frangible membranes. The spout portion has a skirt with an annular recess for mating with the bead on the pre-formed rim. The lower edge of the annular recess of the skirt has an inwardly cantilevered lower lip which is stretched outward past the bead during installation. After the skirt of the spout is installed the outer frangible membranes securing the locking ring to the bails of the cap are broken and t he locking ring is forced downward over the skirt and rim. The locking ring is stretched slightly to do this, and compresses the lower edge, locking the lip under the bead, and securing the closure to the container.
