In order to permit simple and convenient monitoring of the thermal loading of chain suspension means, individual links (9, 10, 11, 12) of such a suspension means or an identification attachment provided with the suspension means is provided with a coating which changes its colour irreversibly in dependence on the temperature acting upon it, with the result that, with reference to the change in colour of the coating, conclusions can be drawn as to the temperature to which the suspension means is subjected. <IMAGE>
