The disadvantage of the known coin containers arranged underneath a coin-operated telephone is that they are tin containers which, although lockable, can nevertheless be broken off easily and which oppose a resistance time of only one minute to the breaking-open work. The aim is to redesign such a coin container in such a way that it can be broken open hardly at all or in at least ten times the breaking-open work time. This is achieved in that the housing, with the exception of a welded-in back wall, and the door are cast from an approximately 10 mm thick chromium/nickel alloy, the housing has a near-edge continuous inner collar and the door, with the exception of the lock side, has a near-edge continuous inner collar which, on its near-hinge side, engages by means of a projecting rail behind the inner collar of the housing in the closed door position and which, on its near-lock side, has guide holes for two oppositely movable locking bolts which likewise engage behind the inner collar of the housing, the locking bolts being parts of a safe multi-bit safety lock.
