The process is for introducing iron into water flowing in a BWR tank of a nuclear power station in operation, the reactor comprising a heat-generating fuel core in the form of a nuclear fuel element lowered into the tank (10) to generate steam, and at least one circulation cycle (20,30) contg. devices to recover energy from the steam, condense the steam and purify, condition and return the condensate to the tank. Water is brought into contact with metallic iron which dissolves under controlled conditions by corrosion and then the iron-rich water is added to the water flowing into the tank. Also claimed is the appts. for the above process, comprising a chamber at least partially filled with metallic iron and having an inlet for water and an outlet for iron-enriched water. Pref. the addn. of the iron is controlled to promote formation of poorly stable corrosion prods., e.g. spinels, and suppress the formation of more readily soluble prods., e.g. metal oxides. |
