The apparatus comprises a heating plate (6) on which the food to be reheated is placed, this plate (6) being situated inside a housing (2) that can be closed and opened on one side by a door (4) connected at its lower end to the housing (2) by a pair of hinges (5). Each hinge consists of an arm (9) and a plate (10) fixed to the door (4) and housing (2), respectively, and connected to each other by a horizontal pin (11) fixed to the arm and guided in an elongate slot (12) formed in the plate (10). The slot thus forms a stop for the first pin when the door is in its open position. A second pin (13) is fixed to the arm (9) some distance away from the first pin (11) and parallel with it, the outer curved edge of the plate (10) acting as a guide cam (14) in contact with the second pin (13) when the door (4) is opened and closed and the extremities of this cam (14) are shaped in such a way as to form bearing surfaces (15, 16) for the second pin (13) when the door (4) is in its open and closed positions. <IMAGE>
