PRODUCTION OF OPTICAL PARTS

PURPOSE:To provide the process for production of optical parts which facilitates miniaturization and integration. CONSTITUTION:A first optical waveguide chip 10 is formed by forming V- grooves 14 and guide grooves 20 on a ceramic substrate 12 and fixing optical fibers 16 by means of the ceramic substrate 12 and a cap 22 into these V- grooves 14. A second optical waveguide chip 30 is formed by forming V-grooves 34 and guide grooves 40 on a ceramic substrate 32 and fixing optical fibers 36 by means of the ceramic substrate 32 and a cap 42 into these V-grooves 34. An end face 24 is so formed as to have 62 deg. with the propagation direction of light in the optical fibers 16 and an end face 44 is so formed as to have 62 deg. with the propagation direction of light in the optical fibers 36. The first and second waveguide chips 10, 30 are positioned by guide pins 50 in tight contact with the guide grooves 20 and the guide grooves 40. The end face 24 and the end face 44 are disposed approximately parallel by interposing an air layer 60 therebetween.
